I am complaining about African Bank (Loan Sharks) and VVM- ****ed off

I took out a loan with African bank in 2014; and I then had difficulty paying the account but they were aware as I called and informed them-the trying times were only for about 8 months.

In 2015 I called in because I wanted to find out the balance and make arrangements to pay timely. An arrangement was made between myself and the bank and we agreed that they would debit on the 20th of every month and I was happy as I knew that their calls were recorded and this would help me in future if I had any queries.

The issue came about when I called in on the 14 June 2017 because I had received an SMS, stating that I qualified for their 35% discount if I settled the account within 6 working days. I saw this as a great opportunity to pay it off so I took advantage of the discount and paid it in full on the 20 June 2017 in the amount of R5564.80.

I also had received settlement quotations that stated that I had to just pay R5564.8 in full and my debt would be fully paid OFF;

The call center Supervisor Mr Linda Nkosi advised that after I pay the settlement amount(R5564.8) I would have to also call VVM Attorneys to find out how much I owe them in terms of legal fees. I was shocked and astonished and frankly disappointed that I was never told that I had been ‘handed over’ to VVM. I for one have never been contacted by VVM Attorneys or received any communication or SMS or even a call to advise I had been handed over.

My understanding is this if I had been handed over to VVM Attorneys they would have to be the people contacting me and deducting monthly and sending me communication as how much I owe and so forth.

My main complaint is that I was never told within the process of calling African bank and being told this is how much I would have to pay to settle my account when they already handed me over and had made arrangements with a 3rd party.

How am I liable to pay these legal fees? Should I pay for something I was never aware of?

I called VVM on the 22 June 2017 I was informed by Khulekani Hadebe that African Bank was never supposed to have been debiting me or made that arrangement with me as I was handed over to VVM Attorneys, he advised that my profile was handed over almost two years prior on the 11 May 2015- this left my jaw on the ground.

African bank has proved to be the worst company to deal with, they have literally dragged me from pillar to post and have exploited me in so many ways, my problem is this are they even allowed to be in the finance industry as they are ripping black people off and are literally getting away with ******. I am truly disenchanted and would like some assistance as I tried to do the right thing but ended with short end of the stick.

My whole year has been riddled with calls being made on a daily basis by myself inquiring on how much I owe and ensuring that I was on track and having to ask for assistance to pay yet at the end of it all I had been dealing with loan sharks.
