African Bank loan
Good Morning I would like to lodge complain about African Bank of a personal loan R98598.20 (interest rate 32%). I signed the contract because most banks rejected me, because of my affordability. I’ve been paying but the interest is very high, we had an arrangement of R3499.47 in March 2015 I’ve been loyal to them till 2016 when I changed Capitec to Nedbank I then advised them that I have changed banks and I decided to pay them over the counter, ‘but’ they were still debiting on the closed Capitec account and I was charged interest. In 2017 when I spoke with one of the consultant telephonically (hoping that they log contacts), I told them I had financial problems I can only afford R1500.00 per month and I was told that is okay but there was/is no agreement signed to reduce my monthly installment to R1500 and I kept on paying the R1500 while they were charging interest because they were not receiving the full amount of R3499.47. I was not told that I should come and sign paper work for changes in my installment I thought the consultant that assisted me was going to make the changes on their side of the system. I took a break for six months because I saw that the balance on my loan is not decreasing. On the 22 August 2018 African bank came to my work place to offer me with an agreement that I should pay R2000 per month and I agreed and signed the paper work. But now my thing is when I told them that I can only afford R1500 per month because of financial problems no one came to my work place to sign paper work nor told me that I should visit one of their offices to sign paper work for the R1500 agreement. I then started to make the R2000 payments as from 27 September 2018 till now; still I see no difference on my balance. According to my Calculations when I had started paying the R2000 September 2018 the balance outstanding was R109 326.17 which from September 2018 will August 2019 I have paid them R24 000.00. My outstanding balance should be R85 326.17, on the letter that I have received from the Ombudsman dated 12.08.2019. According to them I still have an outstanding balance of R93 756.22. On the 11.12.2018 I enquired about my credit score as I was interested on buying a house and I was told that: From: Helen Lombard <***> Sent: Wednesday, 12 December 2018 6:55 AM To: Siphokazi Plati <***> Subject: FW: PLS CREDIT CHECK SIPHOKAZI PLATI IN VIEW OF LATE PAYMENT Morning Siphokazi Unfortunately your credit score is very low and falls into the POOR category due to the unpaid African Bank Loan of R111, 756 which was handed over. As you don’t have any other open accounts apart from the Standard Bank credit card this means that your overall credit rating is very low. You will need to settle the African Bank loan before any of the banks will lend to you, and then you will need to rebuild your credit score with a few accounts that show regular monthly payments. I continued paying R1500.00 thinking that everything was recorded and set on system for R1500.00. I then took a break because I saw that I was not going anywhere with this amount as the interest increased because it looked like I was not paying.
