AFRICAN BANK INSURANCE - NOT HELPFUL

I got retrenched in October and my last day was the 30th of October and accepted a severance package offered by the company.

The retrenchment process which was initiated by the former employer was stated as a Voluntary Agreement as part of the operational restructuring process to mitigate the severe effects of a forced retrenchment.

I app**** for the credit life insurance and it got declined due to the retrenchment being a "Voluntary", but the employer did send a separate letter confirming that no alternative position was offered to me and I would still have been retrenched irregardless.

It is quite disheartening and frustrating that even when you are a loyal client for so long, paying insurance premiums and not having missed even a single installment payment, they are quick to decline with no compassion and try assist by all means in finding a solution in this matter that is satisfactory. How is it possible that they can receive, assess and decide to decline within 5 minutes.

In as much as I do understant the decline was based on the retrencment being a Vsp, which was initiated by the employer, it would still have not changed anything as I would still have been retrenched but just prolonging the inevitable.

As a 35 year old, I do not think I would have wanted to be going through a phase of being unemployed, especially in this economy and the high rate of unemployment.

It was truly a matter of "take it or leave it, your position within the company is still redundant".

I just would like for them to understand the mental impact this process has on someone, especially that is already on a mental health journey.

All my other creditors approved, with the same letter that was sent to African Bank. They took it upon themselves to go the whole nine yards in assessing my application by even reaching out to my former employer to confirm the details of the retrenchment.

I have been requesting for African bank to do the same but on one is willing to go the extra mile in assisting.

Now I will be sitting with a loan that is going to incurring further interest charges until I get a job and able to start repaying them.

PLEASE ASSIST
