African Bank *****

My name is Pumla Zwedala. I am using my son's profile to make this review. Last year, in March 2025, I visited African bank to request a loan. I was told I don't qualify because I had just started paying for a bond with another bank. I went back in April and was told a different story on why I don't qualify. Apparently, I had an outstanding loan that I took back in 2002. I did not have a permanent job during said time, so I couldn't have app**** for any kind of loan. No attempt was ever made to contact me regarding this. The account was also already under prescription.

I requested that a signed contract be emailed to me, but instead, I was asked to submit an affidavit with six signatures so they could compare my current signature with the one on the loan. I went and did so in February of this year. On the 24th of this month, I followed up with the African Bank branch in Kempton Park, West Street. The forensic investigator, Tshepiso Naale, told me the loan was archived and not listed on SAFPS, but with the Bureaus.

I consulted Mr Abbie Matlhoko of the West Street branch and asked him why my account with the bank, listed in the credit Bureau, didn't appear after all my accounts were consolidated. He responded that it wouldn't appear because it might have been an attempt within the bank to apply for a loan under my name, and was not listed under the South African ***** Services, because the bank made no losses. I had only been listed on the bank's system.

It's mind-boggling that I am listed in their system. How did they get hold of my details if I have never lost my ID, nor given my information out to anybody? The bank also failed to provide me with the so-called signed contract I made in 2002. The bank's failure to protect clients and innocents from ***** committed within its institution disappoints me greatly.

This is the second time I've experienced an issue with a bank, and I fear I've lost confidence in our country's banking services.
