Inappropriate treatment

We were utterly appalled by the way we were threated during our stay, the whole experience was not pleasant at all. Firstly the way we were spoken to was just very disrespectful, we were told we were making noise and some people actually cancelled their stay because of us but no proper communication was made to make us aware and minimize our noise levels. We were then forced to pay for what was supposedly refunded to those tenants that left. Our entrance was blocked and we could not have access to the premises up until payment was made.

Good afternoon Nosihle
We are disappointed to read this review. Our version of events, and the version of events from our other guests paint a completely different picture to your review. Our host on the property repeatedly asked you and the other guests in your tent to quiet down. We did communicate the problem with you, but you chose not to co-operate. From as early as making your booking with us, you agree to the terms and conditions of the property - that no noise, parties, or music is tolerated on any AfriCamps location. Unfortunately, we had to ask you, in a very calm and professional manner, to leave the property. We have a responsibility towards our other guests who book their stay for a peaceful escape in nature. Due to the noise from your tent continuing to after 03:00 in the morning, our other paying guests left the property and sought alternative accommodation. We did have to refund our other guests, and we appreciate your understanding and co-operation in that regard. We ask that you carefully consider where you book your stays in future, as most establishments will have rules and regulations in place with regard to noise. We also ask that you consider the guests around you in future.

We were fortunate enough to have a conversation with the 2 tents that we were close to the one we were booked in and they said they slept peacefully. And also we do know that the host did make calls to them and they did confirm they slept just fine. We had no party in our tent, the first night yes we do agree that communication was made to us to lower our noise levels and this was purely due to the fact that we were not aware of how much our voices would travel to the nearby tents, we did apologise for this. On the second night we were very weary of our voices and noise levels and we didn't receive any message with regards to our noise. Which is why it was a shock to us in the morning to be asked to pay an excess of 2000 or we leave because apparently some guests left because of our noise. The amount for whatever reason then went down to R1190 and while we were making arrangements for the payment as we were out and obviously paying this amount was not on our plans we came back and we were blocked by the hosts car..
Now was this calm and professional??.... We obviously paid the R1190 "noise amount" and proceeded to stay for the night only because we were coming from different and far places and we just needed to finish our itinerary for the 3 days. The way everything was communicated to us was disappointing and extremely rude. We have booked in other places before and this was by far the worst we have ever experienced.

Hi Nosihle. Thank you for the information. We investigated the matter further, and a refund will be arranged for the guest who made the payment. It is not AfriCamps' policy to charge a guest for the refund of another guest. The reason you were charged for one night by the property owner, was because you refused to leave the property after you were calmly asked to do so by our head office after various noise compliants. When you refused to leave the property, due to the complications it would cause to your itinerary, the property owner made the suggestion that, if you needed to stay on their property any longer, they would allow it if you reimbursed them for the refunds they had to make to the guests who cut their stay short by two nights. Your group accepted this suggestion. Although we understand why the property owner made the suggestion, we will carry this cost. Our policy remains that the property owner may ask a guest to leave the premises if they do not adhere to the property rules and AfriCamps' rules. We are disappointed to hear that the situation escalated the way it did as the situation was easily avoidable by abiding by the rules and regulations that were agreed to when you made the booking.

Calm was never the order of the day when it came to the owners of the property, being blocked by their car on the driveway does not in any way equate to calm and professional. Even when I tried to have a conversation with the host in the morning she was extremely rude and had made up her mind about us without even making us understand. We paid the amount because we needed to keep the peace because in all honesty she was harassing us while we were making arrangements to make the payment and infact we were still asking ourselves how come on the night in question no calls, messages came through to say our noise level was unacceptable. As I mentioned above we were absolutely very weary of our noise levels that particular night and in no way did we refuse to leave, we just wanted to understand why, we even asked the 2 tents close by and they slept just fine. But we paid and then we knew after we check out we would enquirie if this is how guests are to be treated?? We do of course acknowledge that it's their property and as it has been evident they can be as rude as they wish to guests they probably don't take a liking to and we have to just abide by what they say.
