AFM homes

Is the Executive Welfare Council of the AFM of SA(AFM welfare) aware of the many problems the residents of the AFM home,Samuel Street, Sarepta,Kuils River face on a daily basis regarding food and the accommodation we live in wtih leaking roofs etc and to whom we can complain? Since the previous*manager," Maxie Herbst has resigned and left at the end of March 2025 and even when she was still here nothing has improved and in fact now that there is no manager things have become worse.

When one hears about donations etc questions are asked about where it was used or who benefits from the donations.

Trollies,on two occasions,laden with pockets of potatoes and other vegetables and boxes of chicken brought in and rolls of bacon and one must assume it is for the residents,is then taken out of the facility a week later to the "catering managers" motor vehicle. and when questions are asked at a residents meeting the answer was something about a new supplier.

If this is true why is this facilities storage used to drop off other homes vegetables,chicken etc?

Since the previous manager any complaints residents had was brushed off by her and we were told in no uncertain terms,to quote her "This is not an hotel" and we should be thankful for what we get as we do not pay for boarding.

Now and since end of March 2025 this facility has no manager although the position was advertised and the lady who app**** was not interested after doing a walkthrough,we have a self appointmented manager who is the daughter of the ex-manager and who is both HRO and PRO,and we think the ex-manager still has influence over what happens here and one can see that the staff are not impressed when dealing with her as she is just as rude as the ex-manager.

Due to the fact that we have had nobody from the health department doing an inspection of this facility we have experienced bed bugs, ****roaches,mice and many cats and the mole holes which are dangerous and all over the home outside one wonders who is responsible should a resident be injured.

The facility which was run by a mother and daughter and the catering/cleaning family,mother/manager, father/manager and now two daughters and the one daughter working as the kitchen/cleaning supervisor and only monday to friday and only between 07:00 to 16:00 and not public holidays and if a complaint is made about food one never hears anything further as nothing changes.

The reason for this "review" is to ask those who are in authority to please investigate and not to use the excuse as the previous manager did that the Department of Social Development runs the home and there is nothing she could do. This was the only reason/excuse she could use to not do her work as was required from a manager.

It would be very much appreciated if those in authority could do the necessary as these complaints are for the benefit of all the residents who are living here now and those for the future.
