Worst funeral parlour- AFJ funeral home

Worst and draining service ever. My mom passed on the 07/07/2023 and we were to bury on the 22/07/2023. We got the Director/ Manager’s number and Mrs Monti's number on my mom’s diary. Called both , they both confirmed my mom was a member and was paying monthly. They even said when you get to the mortuary say so that they go and get the body. Few days later before the burial we went to identify the body, and get the body from Government mortuary in New Brighton, the guy that was supposed to be taking the body to the parlour was in a rush and we couldn’t even view the body. He loaded my mom’s body in the car and one of my brother’s still enquired whether we won’t view before he takes the body with. He said ok we could view. Not him opening the cover from the legs up, exposing my mom. Thank God our dad saw that first before we could see. My dad asked him to leave it, my dad was so emotional and told us it’s ok we will view some other time the guy is rushing. It was so unprofessional and so insensitive of the guy. Then the Mr Andile , the Director/Manager called my brother to arrange a meeting before burial, we agreed to meet up just don’t remember the exact date now as I’m writing this. We went to their offices in Kwanobuhle and we were told we will be meeting up with a lady there not him , he is out of town. We got there, the lady told us that our mom was not a member and we have to pay. We were shook because as far as we know she was according to Mr Andile and Mrs Monti. We asked when did they discover that now. On their brochure which we got from Mrs Monti my mom was on the ‘1+ 9 members option’ which when you think about it, you would think 1 represents the main member and 9 people under the member and that was not the case according to the lady. We asked to see her membership book which she told us about. She said there are 10 members there and my mom is not there. When I checked I’ve noticed that my uncle was written twice which then makes it 9 members. Brought that to the lady’s attention and she said “well your mom signed up 9 people and she’ll provide another name later” We left the parlour not pleased, my dad also told the lady about the incident that Happened at the mortuary with the guy. With everything that was happening we all agreed we not happy with the service, so my big brother called Mr Andile, reported what we were told. He then said he’ll send us a quote and which he did . It amounted to R6500.00 with no line items , just total written there. He did not break it down so that we see how he got to the above mentioned total. My brother called him to say that and he said there is no network where he is, he will do it later. He never did. This whole thing was draining so we ended up going to a reputable parlour in Port Elizabeth (Vantyi & Vantyi) they told us how the process of them getting the body from AFJ funeral home will go. We agreed to pay and deal with this whole thing after the funeral. So we paid , Vantyi took the body from them and mom was buried. Would never recommend AFJ funeral home to anyone.
