Telehealth is almost pointless.

Telehealth services are the worst. Affinity now decides whether you need to go to the doctor or if they can just telephonically diagnose you instead. Not the greatest plan as they have misdiagnosed my son and given wiring dosages and meds. That aside, their telehealth can also be great in that if you are unable to get to a doctor, they can assist. On Monday I requested telehealth and was assisted with a diagnoses and some really good medical advise. I was even given a sick note. I was promised a prescription for meds to assist with my issue as well as meds for prevention of a recurring the issue. This was Monday Afternoon. Tuesday I had still not received the prescription and requested someone to call me back or send it through. No response. Now Wednesday. I have requested on 3 different occasions today for someone to call me back. Still no response. This medication that I needed urgently, does not seem a priority to affinity. In the interim, I’ve had to purchase in expensive meds over the counter as affinity has failed to honour their promise of a script. I’m not sure what else to do at this point. They are frustrating, inconsiderate and ***********. To date, I have sent through a total of 4 requests and nothing.

Good Afternoon Justine,

We can confirm that a Complaints Officer has been in contact with you to provide feedback on your queries raised.

The Telehealth service is a convenient service provided to our members to assist them in their time of need.  This service is provided by Nurse Practitioners to treat symptoms and not to diagnose a condition or to replace a GP consultation.

With regards to your allegation of a misdiagnosis of your son, we can confirm that you initially consulted with a GP and the medication that was prescribed was not according to our medicine formulary.  You then contacted us to provide you with a script for formulary alternatives, to ensure that the cost of the medication would be covered. We can confirm that this was done in accordance with your request.

With reference to your query regarding the prescription, we can confirm that an OTC SMS was sent to you directly after your consultation on Monday.  Unfortunately, it seems as though the SMS did not reach you and therefore a script for the medication was provided to you upon your request. Please accept our sincerest apologies for the delay in forwarding the script through to you.

Our members and their well-being are extremely important to us, and we do trust that you will continue to enjoy the benefits of your chosen option.

Kind regards,
Affinity Health Management Team
