SHOCKING!!

At first I thought they were an amazing Medical Aid/Insurance provider, I put my partner on the medical aid for the sole purpose of making sure that should he be injured while he is working (as he works for Team DSS a security company), he will be covered. I got told today that my partner is not covered while he is ON duty, but he will be covered when he is OFF duty, I asked why what is the point then, the sales person then decided to tell me it is because they do not cover people who carry a firearm. This I could not understand, I cancelled my entire policy for both him and myself because I want him covered while he is working in case he gets into an accident or gets shot and he can be treated properly at a private hospital down the road from where we live and work. I only wanted the medical cover for myself for the purpose of giving birth so that I could give birth "comfortably" at a private hospital. So no, I do not recommend Affinity health, they may be cheap, but their ducks are not in a row at all.

Good day Caitlin,

Thank you for taking the time to raise your concerns with us.

Please be advised that Medical aids and Insurance Funds do not cover the costs of injuries on duty as these must be covered by the Workmen's Compensation Fund which is a Statutory requirement.

Kindly note that this information is available in the public domain and you can refer to Compensation For Occupational Injuries and Disease ACT, 1993 ( CT 130 OF 1993).

It is important to note that the Affinity Health maternity benefit carries a 12 month waiting period.

Should you require any further assistance, please let us know and we will arrange for an agent to contact you.

Kind Regards
Affinity Health Management Team

That's funny you say that because you guys approached a security group offering all their armed response officers and guards medical insurance... I know it takes 12 months for maternity, I'm not pregnant but I plan on getting there soon.

All I'm saying is when I discussed this with the agents when I signed up this was not brought to my attention and I wasted all that time on the phone signing up when you not even going to cover what I asked for.

Good day Caitlin,

We understand, however, if the member is injured on duty the injury must be paid by the Workmen's Compensation Fund as advised above.

If the member is injured whilst he is not on duty then the costs will be covered by Affinity Health according to benefit protocol.

We can furthermore confirm that the DSS Security group is not part of the Affinity Health Public Sector Security plan.

Kindly request the member to refer to his Employer for further clarity regarding Occupational related injuries, alternatively please contact our COID Department for further assistance.

Kind Regards
Affinity Health Management Team
