Bad Service

To the Public,

I just want to take a moment to provide feedback on Affinity Health regarding a recent life threatening emergency I had on 6th September 2021.

I regrettably had to be rushed to hospital on this day as I was struggling to breath and due to me not owning my own means of private transportation and that public transportation was not viable at the time. I made use of ER24 Service and their Ambulance transported me to hospital.

Because I am with Affinity Health I was under the impression that they would cover this cost, but apparently they were not clear on the brochure that it only app**** to life threatening situations. Now according to them my situation was not life threatening, but I was struggling to breath and was unable to even move too much due to my illness.

However once I was admitted and after tests was done I was diagnosed with Priority RED 1 COVID PNEUMONIA and ended up on double barrel oxygen and had to be hospitalised for a week, but Affinity Health Regards this as a non life threatening situation. I really don't know what I'm paying for then?

I know have to pay the ER24 Ambulance Bill on my own, which costs R2800,00. Affinity could have at least met me half way and offered to cover half of the cost. Also they confirm that my illness is not covered.

So people if you have a choice then seriously reconsider joining them, unfortunately for me I do not have a choice as this Health plan is a must with my company, as its some group scheme for my company, but if i had a choice then I would join a different medical aid health plan.

I'm really disappointed with Affinity Health's decision not to cover this incident.

Good Day Affinity Health,

I am happy that you have reassed my claim and that Affinity Health will indeed be covering this claim.

However I hope you will relook at how things was handled the first time around and hope you will educate your team in how to better communicate within departments. As my understanding now is the reason this claim was now only approved, after it was twice rejected, was due to the one department not passing on my important documents indicating that my condition was life threatening after all.

I mean this could have been easily rejected a third time if it was not for the complaints officer doing her job thoroughly. I commend the complaint officer for checking with departments, tracking all emails and following up and also for keeping me informed through out this whole unpleasant experience. Thank You and also for being friendly. Please convey my thankfulness to her for getting this sorted out.

Thank You.
