Affinity - man was I wrong

I was a member with Affinity since 2019, This year May 2021 I realized that this medical aid is just a money making scheme. I succumbed to an injury and didn't feel that it was necessary to seek medical attention immediately. I had a fall and landed on my knees, my knees where fine but in February 2021 this year the pain became really bad. I then seeked medical attention, My GP sent me for x-rays and then referred me to an Orthopaedic after paying for the MRI on both my knees by myself. All details was sent to the medial aid to approve the surgery that was needed and their response after weeks of following up was that I will not be covered as it was a pre-existing condition. I questioned this because according to my knowledge pre-existing is prior to you being a member. The injury occurred when I was on their medical aid for years . Their response to me was that I should have contacted the medical aid within 30days of the injury, To inform them that I got hurt but not seeking medical attention as yet. Because I didn't do that they can't cover my surgery. After years of paying my premiums on time, and I can count on one hand how many times I've used the medical aid which was mostly for my daughter. I am stuck at the moment because after obtaining all the documentations from My GP as well as my Orthopaedic surgeon whom I’ve paid cash for every visit they refused to help me. Even if I get another medical aid this now will be regarded as a pre-existing condition. Affinity really let me down with the service provided especially to their clients in need. I am a hockey player and have been for over 20 years, I will not be able to play anymore. I will never be able to run around with my kids, I will never be able to go hiking, I will never be active until the surgery is done. I am only 33 and thought I had a medical aid that will help me when needed. Man was I wrong and it’s proven as well.
