Affinity Is a No NO!

I am an affinity health member from 2017 and I must say I don't use my policy as much, however around early February I had severe low abdomen pain. I called Affinity to get authorization to go to the hospital and was told that I cannot get authorization due to the fact that it wasn’t an emergency. On Sunday, 06 Feb 22 the pain had escalated so bad and I couldn’t even move. I then called affinity again and was referred to the sister nurse who prescribed a stronger pain tablet after I had advised that the mybulen and ebrufen I took wasn’t working even though I took it in high volumes than required. I got the medication around 12:00 and at 14:30 the pain was so severe I couldn’t even stand. I was taken to the emergency room and upon my assessment the Dr. referred me for a CT scan. The hospital (Montana Netcare) indicated that they don't help affinity patients unless its cash due to the medical insurances bad account management. I then called affinity while laying in pain and asked for authorization to do the CT scan. The lady I spoke to advised that I can go ahead and do the scan as I had over R20K in the benefit for a CT scan. I paid R12 403,43 for the scan. R1500.00 for the consultation and an additional R702.30 for blood tests. I had to pay for all my procedures cash as they didn't want to struggle to get their money from Affinity. When I contacted the claims department I was given a run around and to date I received an email indicating that the maximum the insurance is going to pay for my CT scan claim is R10K. How is this even legal right if I was told I had more than enough on my benefit and I was assured that I will get my full refund. I wouldn't recommend affinity to anyone. I never had an emergency case that required me to spend so much money and I was put at ease as I mostly used the GP benefit. I feel so ****** as I have never missed a payment and over the years I never had serious medical issues that required attention to such an extend. I wonder what would happen if I had a major operation if they can't even pay back a CT scan. Utterly disappointed by the whole process.
