Affinity Health s.

<div>Affinity Health will share personal information to complete strangers.

Let's start this story with I have had my current number for the past 10 years. About 5 years ago, a person started giving out my number as theirs.

In January Affinity health sent me that I have a funeral policy with them. Due to past experiences I ignore these messages.

Today I received that my policy is over due and I need to make payment.

I decided I would get my number removed from their system as I want them to stop harrassing me.

I used their WhatsApp line to ask for them to remove my number. After multiple times stating that I am not the policy holder and I do not have a policy with them. Did they still do nothing.

Stating that they are in contravene of the POPI Act was I suddenly phoned from them to tell me they weren't.

The consultant over the phone told me that they weren't. I never gave the policy holder the permission to use my personal phone number. As I don't even know the policy holder.

Today I decided to check all the messages Affinity has sent me since January. Upon this did I discovered Affinity had shared private person information of the policy holder with me. Which is surely a futher breach of the POPI Act. At 12:09 today Affinity assured me per their WhatsApp line that my number was removed from their system. I received another sms from Affinity at 14:05 that stated my policy lapsed and once again. POPI Act also prevents companies to stop communications when a person ask. Which Affinity clearly is not following. I had messaged them again on their WhatsApp line and as to now I am still waiting for a response.

I would suggest Affinity should verify a persons information before they sign them up. To ensure this breach of information does not happen and that people don't get harrased. I would also like Affinity to please provide written proof that my number has been removed from their system and I won't be harassed futher.</div>

Good Morning Jancke,

Thank you for allowing the organization the opportunity to look into the matter.

It is unfortunate that your contact information was linked with an application received from a client interested in taking out an Affinity Funeral Policy.

As confirmed by yourself in your initial complaint, you were aware that your contact information was being used by someone else some time ago. The reason SMSes were sent to you is simply because the contact number provided by the applicant and linked with the policy was yours, however, this was not known to Affinity Funeral.

We respect all our clients and their right to privacy as well as ensure we comply with the POPI Act to the best of our abilities and can assure you that your contact information has since been removed from the policy as well as any active dialing campaigns with Affinity Funeral.

Best Regards,
Affinity Health Management Team.

Reviewer Update
Thank you for your reply.
As per your email on the 23rd of April you claim that you can not confirm a clients contact information. Where in fact you can confirm a number with a one time promt. This should be something Affinity should look into. As I have this poor clients personal information.

Further I want to say reporting my review as false was not great business practices as I have proof of all that has transpired between me and Affinity.

The POPI act states
5. A data subject has the right to have his, her or it's personal information processed in accordance with the conditions for the lawful processing of personal information as referred to in Chapter 3 including the right-
c) to request, where necessary, the correction, destruction or deletion of his, her or its personal information as provided in terms of section 24

I had to request more than 8 times for my number to be removed. The call centre person who phoned me was extremely rude and wouldn't listen to what I was saying. She actually made me feel like I did something wrong.

This last communication with Affinity has given me the feeling, as a company your are also not willing to take responsibility for there actions and would rather blame others.

Looking back now, I should have contacted your company sooner not to be harrassed and to be called a ****.

I do hope that after a week and already being claimed by Affinity that my number was removed on the 18th of April 2024 to be contacted two hours later that I won't be contacted by Affinity Health in the future and that they get better security messure to protect policy holders personal information better.
