Affinity Health

Affinity Health claims you are covered in a private hospital should you ever need one. This is my experience with affinity health.... I took out insurance from them in 2015. Me as main member. My son as dependent. Wow I was so lucky to be able to afford a medical cover as a single parent. I opted for the comrehensive plan with an additional rescue plan. So I was fine going to doc every 6 or so months to get a new prescription for my son who is autistic/ severe mental disability. Affinity did not pay for any medication that he needed as he was extremely violent. No prob I payed for it knowing that should he self harm himself I could go to a private hospital and things would be taken care of. So comes 20 Aug 2019 my non verbal child cannot walk up straight. As a special needs mother and knowing that my child does not show pain as a normal child I immediately know its vital to get him to my gp asap. Long story short , in my town we have a netcare hosp. They would not take us as we are Affinity... in port elizabeth the closest city netcare greenacres would not take us as we are Affinity. Life St Georges took us in after a very heated fight with Affinity. My son had to wait an extra 2.5 hrs at hosp before we could be admitted due to paperwork. Could you believe that they wanted a quote before he could be admitted. Anyway hosp worked out quote at a staggering R58 960!!!! For an apendectomy. Well this is the only hosp that would take us. Affinity sent us there. Theh rep**** with a guarantee of payment for 30 000. I had to make a payment of 28 960 befor a doc would see us. Now if you think a mamma bear is is an angry one with her cubs when the are in danger, you have never seen a special needs mom who' s childs life depends on things happening NOW! The surgeon I was referred to heard about my child and insisted hosp admid him now. He never even saw my child. We were admitted... bliss my child can now be taken care of. He had to go for a scan to confitm his condition( good vibes story to follow for the radiologists) they heard about the amount that I had to pay because of Affinity Health. They did it "pro deo" please google the difference between pro bono and pro deo. The former is for the good of the community, the latter is for God. My world was shacken because of this gift I am receiving from wonderful people that only heard about my situation. Ok so we move on 20 days or so.... I get a call from 1 docs office. Claim was rejected. Phone affinity they reduced te GOP from 30 000 to 25 000 as my child was only there for 1 day. The hosp was 24k and some change. So zero left for the docters. At this stage I have an amount of R8700 for surgeon and 6200 for anastesia. Add it up? If I could only affors an affordable medical cover how on earth can I afford this kind of excess??? Needless to say I cancelled my cover effective immediadetly. I am done with this people that promise you have private cover. Please dont waist yout money on Affinity health. Btw I had rescue cover aswell. "For life threatening ilness or accidents" my sons appendix not only burst it was black!! Now is this nit life treatening???? Only Affinity would know. Unfortunately you only know you are not covered when the s#!¥ hits the fan. Affinity I told you today that Hello Peter is my next move ant I will continue to let people know how misleading you are.
