Affinity Health

Well now this has left a bad taste in my mouth...... I have been with Affinity Health since 2015, I have never made one claim and always paid my premiums on time, not once did a premium slip, well, not that I am aware of anyway. And then it happened.....December 2019 I presented with what appeared to be a heart attack. We phoned the local ambulance service and they arrived within 10min. So far so good......it is here where everything started going down hill. I presented the medic with my Affinity Health Card and I could see the smile on his face vanish. He informed me that they do not do business with Affinity Health. I then gave consent to transport me to the nearest private hospital and signed a consent form for the costs. Arriving at the hospital I was told the same thing by the casualty ward staff, they do not work with Affinity Health. Please keep in mind through all of this I was presenting signs of a heart attack, shortness of breath, tightness in my chest. I had to give oral consent to the casualty staff that I will be liable for the costs should they call the doctor. To make a long story short. The doctor could not find conclusive evidence that it was a heart attack and he referred me to a specialist for a 2nd opinion at Netcare Montana. Here comes the ripper!!!!! The quotation for ICU at Netcare was R 150 000 (One Hundred And Fifty Thousand) per day, Affinity Health only paid......R 12 000 (Twelve Thousand) per day.......I ended up in Steve Biko Hospital in Pretoria. So my question is.....Why pay the premium, if there is no way that the product can provide the cover that is needed? If Affinity Health knows that the costs of a normal ward ranges from R 30 000 - R 50 000 per day, how can they sell you a product that covers only R 20 000 per day (this R20 000 is for a booster plan that came into affect January)? I was in hospital (state hospital) for 3 days. That meant that if I were to have been admitted to a private hospital, I would have been surprised by a R 90 000 when I got sent home? No thank you. I have just cancelled my policy with Affinity Health. For all the other people who have only good things to say, I am happy for you that it worked out.
