Affinity Health

Me and my family had a very bad experience with Affinity Health. We joined during January 2016 and even paid our premium and regsitration fees in advance to be entitled to immidiate cover. On 11 March 2016 me and my wife visited our doctor (for the past 11 years) and my son visited on 02 April 2016. After concluding our visits, we paid the difference of the agreed Affinity Health payment. On the same day of our visit on 03 March 2016, during a telephonic conversation between the doctor and Affinity Health, it was agreed that Affinity Health would pay the balance as the doctor was informed to submit his invoice for the difference directly to Affinity. This was never paid but Affinity continued deducting our monthly premium. During May 2016, doctor was still not paidand we had no choice but to pay the money owed to our doctor as our "Good Faith Relationship" was now in jeopardy. After contacting Affinity we were informed that payment was still pending. After explaining to the call centre operator that this was in breach of contract as the Medical Schemes Act 131 of 1998 Sec. 59 (2) states that the insurer (Affinity Health) must pay within 30 days for services rendered, we were informed that "if we are unhappy with the service of Affinity, we should cancel our membership". Since this we had sent emails to both Monique and Geraldine at Affinity with no response from both. Subsequint to this we requested immidiate cancellation of our membership as this was very poor service rendered by Affinity. I would therefore like to notify the public to think before engaging with Affinity Health as they are not what was sold to us during a telephone conversation between us and Affinity Health/Monique when we signed up with them.

Hi Andre, many thanks for taking the time to make contact with us here on Hello Peter.

Firstly we would like to apologise for your unpleasant experience with our company and assure you that we do our utmost to act in the best interests of all our members. Thank you for your feedback regarding the lack of response to your emails, we will most certainly follow up on this to see why your emails went unanswered. This is unacceptable.

Danielle in our escalations department has advised that she has been in contact with you regarding your above post and that she has discussed the medical service provider payment with you.

We can confirm that we will no longer be debiting you and that your policy has been cancelled as you have requested. We would also like to remind you that as a Medical Health Insurance provider, we are not regulated by the Medical Schemes Act you refer to, but that we are governed rather by the relevant South African Insurance bodies.

Danielle and our escalations team are more than willing to assist you with any further queries regarding this matter.

Kind regards,

Affinity Health.
