Kwikot has no compassion for its customers
I stay in a flat. My 5 year old kwikot geyser recently burst and we let our building supervisor put things in motion asap,as water was everywhere and didn't want to cause too much damage to the flats below us. I have to mention that our hot water had discolouration for months before it burst, and the plumber said that it was a sign there and then, of worse things to come. The serial number of our geyser expired in July 2018,it was installed at the end of Aug 5 years prior,so it was only 7 weeks out of warranty. I contacted kwikot and the call centre denied my warranty claim. I then asked to speak to a supervisor named Johan,I explained my situation and he asked me to email my original geyser invoice to see the exact dates and he would assess it. I phoned numerous times to follow up and eventually managed to get hold of Johan and he said they won't honour the guarantee as it was too far out of warranty. I tried to explain of what was transpiring with our hot water discolouration months prior to bursting, but he had no interest or any compassion. I discussed this with our plumber. He just laughed out loud and said everyone in the industry knows Kwikot won't pay for anything extra as they're replacing so many they'd go out of business of they replaced out of warranty ones as well, and it's because of Kwikots bad attitude to their customers, that he now only uses Heattech geysers as they use thicker metal and outlast kwikot twice as long. He's yet to encounter a customer that has replaced a Kwikot geyser with another Kwikot due to the same reasons. He said I was lucky it lasted 5 years anyways as he puts the lifespan on Kwikot geysers at 3.5 yrs and the warranty is only on the original purchase date (fair enough). Johan did say he would discuss it with his superior and get back to me immediately, as the plumber was already here and getting stuck in, i'm still waiting for his reply a week later. So Kwikot..you know everyone needs a geyser, and they are held to ransom basically when water is flooding everywhere and the prospect of a cold shower if the wheels aren't put in motion immediately . I'm still waiting for your reply. And you don't reply to all those messages I've left. I would've thought for a long standing South African business like Kwikot, it would've done a tiny bit more to actually retain their existing customer base for customers that are only a little out of warranty, I've yet to encounter any business that won't cover their products for an extra month or two unless they have something to hide. Which is what the industry seems to believe about kwikot. So lets all vote with our feet..choose another geyser company like Heattech, who have a lot to prove against bigger companies like Kwikot, and it seems they are winning.
