AA Mechanical warranty sham (AMP)
Before you purchase an AA Evolve (or as in my case an Evolve Super Plus) mechanical warranty from the AA, underwritten by Advanced Motor Protector (AMP), consider the following scenario and the actions by the Insurer: I bought a second hand vehicle and the mentioned mechanical warranty; After 2000 km in the vehicle, I noticed that the gas consumption is particularly poor; I took the vehicle to a workshop to check out injectors, spark plugs, fuel pump and oxygen sensor. No issues there. Only issue is that the valve timing is out due to a stretched timing chain, and it was proposed that the chain be replaced. I lodged the claim with the AA (AMP) who rejected it due to it being lodged too soon (apparently they don’t pay if the problem materialize within the first 90 days as it then viewed as a pre-existing problem) and they will only pay for a part that has actually failed. What a joke! So I can theoretically use the car for another couple of weeks until the chain actually break, and then they will pay to fix the engine, probably at a much higher price tag. Oh and by the way - my specific policy actually covers wear and tear. Although this clause 5 was conveniently overlooked in their assessment. “Deterioration, not resulting in actual failure, arising through usage or age of the Insured vehicle, is covered by the policy...” In hindsight, I regret buying this warranty as the Insurer does not seem intent to honor its part of the agreement, which is ********* and really poor business practice. I would thus not recommend purchasing this insurance - AMP and the AA have ignored my complaints!!!
