SURVEILLANCE CREEP IN A PLACE THAT SELLS SECRETS Let me be absolutely clear about what happened here. I walked into Adult World Belville on Voortrekker Road for a simple enquiry. Before the woman behind the counter would even open her mouth to help me, she demanded I remove my cap, turn around, and face the camera. I refused. And I'd refuse again a thousand times. Here's what these people don't seem to understand — or worse, do understand and don't care about: this is a *** shop. The entire premise of your business is built on the one thing your customers are silently begging for — discretion. Privacy. The dignity of not having your face, your identity, your presence in this specific establishment recorded and stored somewhere. Your customers are not ********s. They are people — husbands, wives, professionals, community members — who have chosen to walk through your door instead of ordering online precisely because they trusted you with something quietly personal. And your response to that trust? Compulsory facial surveillance before you'll even answer a question. This isn't a bank vault. This isn't a jewellery store. You are selling novelty items and personal products. The security justification is laughable — and the fact that you've normalized this policy to the point where your staff enforces it robotically, without apology, without explanation, suggests this isn't about theft prevention at all. So what is it about? Who has access to that footage? Where is it stored? Who are you sharing it with? Because in a store built on discretion, those are not paranoid questions — they are the only questions that matter. I walked out. I will never return. And I will tell every single person I know that Adult World Belville treats its customers like suspects while hiding behind a counter full of products that depend entirely on people trusting you with their privacy. You broke the one contract that makes your business possible. Absolutely disgraceful
