Despicable Dining Experience at Adega Bryanston (Grossvenor Crossing)

Words are inadequate to describe the deplorable service and inexcusable experience that I encountered at Adega Restaurant in Bryanston (Grossvenyor) on April 4th. After having to send back an order that was not in accordance to how it was described on the menu, I then ordered a sea food platter for one upon the night manager's recommendation. What followed thereafter was beyond startling! The platter had three fairly large-sized prawns. When I tasted one of these prawns, I commented to my son that it tasted strange, as if it was from old stock. That being said, I brought this to the night manager's attention who instead of dealing with the matter at hand and perhaps sending it back to the kitchen, explained his way out of the situation with the excuse that the prawns no longer come from Mozambique. That being said, he brought me three more prawns to taste from the sea-food buffet. Furthermore, the second glass of hot water with sliced lemon I had requested had no taste of lemon in it. I had asked the waitress if the same lemons from my previous glass was used and she, of course, denied this.

That being said, it was two hours later when my poor decision in choosing this restaurant to dine was completely realised. I became viciously ill with what what seemed to be food poisoning. I had broken out in hives, was vomitting and had a running tummy relentlessly throughout the night. The diarrhea, and vomitting abated at approximately six o'clock the next morning. I was completely dehydrated.

When I eventually recovered, I contacted the Day Manager Abdul, who assured me that he would look into the matter and get back to me with an explanation or some sort of plausible justification for my deplorable experience. Notwithstanding that, that phonecall was never received, and I am not surprised. What I am shocked about is the manner in which such a complaint and the complaints about the food that was not prepared in accordance to the menu description, the lemon water and the prawns served from old stock. It is incumbant on restauranteurs and the managers they employ to take such complaints where the health of their customer was compromised due to the ill-prepared food they served with the attention and seriousness it deserves. Anything less than such attention is ********* and borders on gross negligence. Of course, this will be the last time I dine at any Adega restaurant!
