Adcrafts total disregard for customer safety

I went to Adcraft signs and stickers (Adcraft) which is situated on 88 witkoppen road on Friday the 18th of January 2019 at about 14:45 to go ask for a quote about branding. On arrival i drove into the premises of Adcraft and got out of the car (left my husband and two kids in the car) and proceeded towards the main door. There was no one in sight when i got to the door so i called out for assistance but unfortunately three dogs (one small and two big dogs; not sure of the breeds) came to the gate, jumped on me and started mauling me, i screamed out for help and a few moments later the owner (Paul Cluttey) managed to get the dogs of me but it was a little too late because they had bitten me on the breast and thigh. I was then rushed to the hospital (fourways life) by my husband to get treated for my wounds (mind you, Paul didnt even ask me which hospital i was going to, if i needed any assistance frrom him, nothing, he went back into the workshop as if nothing had happened).

The doctor who attended to me asked me what breed the dogs were and if they had Immunization cards that were up to date (because if they were up date i would not need a shot of Human Anti Rabies Immunoglobulin which cost about R4000.00, which my medical aid says is an exclusion and they do not pay for it) so i said i do not know. After treating me he asked if i could go back to the owner to ask if the dogs were up to date with their shots on not. I then drove with my family to the police station to ask to be accompanied to Adcraft.

On arrival at the police station at about 16:45 (Douglousdale police station) we met two constables outside walking in (it was time for a shift change) and me and my husband told them about our incident and that we wanted to be accompanied to Adcraft. The two officers asked if the Adcraft was still open or not because they still need to get a police car and it might take a while seeing as though its during shift change, so we drove to Adcratf to see if it was still open and indeed it was still open at oubout 17:15.

We drove back to the police station and on arrival asked fort he two officers to accompany us. We convoyed to Adcratf and when we got there My husband and the police officers went inside and met with the owner. The Constable told him why we were there and that we wanted to find out if his dogs had immunization cards and if they were up to date or not. He went into his office and said he said that they are current with their shots but he can not find the cards (he only found one card which had only had one immunization stamp dated 2016).

He then told my husband and the police officers that his dogs had bitten people on more than four occasions and that no one of those victims had gotten rabies from his dogs because he had taken those victims to a friend of his by the name of Leon at The Local Choice Pharmacy Northriding. He asked if we could go to Leon to ask if he can give us the Anti Rabies shot because he normally helps him when his dogs have bitten people.

We drove to the The Local Choice Pharmacy Northriding together and on arrival we met with Leon who tried to convince us that we did not need the Anti rabies injection, the police officers told Leon that i will not just take his word for it and that up until now we were actually being amicable in trying to resolve this issue because other people would have just opened a case without even asking questions. Paul asked if he has the Anti rabies shots and if he could give them to me and he will pay him later somehow. Leon said that he will call and find out if he can get stock and will tell Paul tomorrow (Saturday 19th) because the place he orders from was closed. Paul said that he will call me tomorrow (Saturday 19th) at 12:00. We drove back to the police station and i told the officers that i will keep them updated as to how things transpire going forward.

On Saturday my husband called Paul at about 12:05 to ask if Leon was able to get the Anti Rabies of which he said no, he then said he wants to call another hospital to see if he can get the Anti Rabies cheaper else where and that he will call me back with in 30 minutes. more than 30 minutes later my husband called him again and he said that he called Nedcare Olivedale Hospitalls pharmacy and they said they have the Anti rabies. he said that we should meet at Adcraft and rive together to Nedcare Olivedale. We convoyed to Necdcare Olivedale and when we got there we proceeded to the pharmacy and were helped by a lady, whom actually made Paul aware that the Anti Rabies was in the ranges of 3 to 4 thousand, so paul asked him to tell him the excact price and the lady said that it would cost R5300.00. Paul then said "no ways it is actually cheaper at Life hospital so lets just got ther and get t there once". When we were leaving the lady at the pharmacy alluded to the fact that if you can prove that your dogs are immunized you do not need this shot and that you can call your vet because he will have the records for your dogs.

At the parking lot Paul said that we must drive not to Life hospital but to Adcraft so he can make calls to his Vet. On arrival at Adrcaft, instead of calling the vet he called one of his previous employees (forgot what his name was) who was bitten by his dogs and put him on loud speaker and asked what injections he had gotten when his dogs bit him on th neck? The guy said that he had gotten 3 injections of Anti rabies on the same day.

He then asked me what my banking details are so he can transfer R4000.00 into my account to pay for the Anti Rabies. I told him it would be better if e drove to Life hospital together because i did not want him to give me R4000.00 only to find out the Anti Rabies actually costs less than that. So i drove to the hospital, got a quote, sent it to him via email and whatsapp and called him as well to inform him of the quote amount (R6300.00 including four the return shots that have to be administered over a period of a week which i told him that my medical aid will cover) he then said no hewill not pay that amount. So i asked him if he was now refusing to eve pay for the initial amount of R4000 he had agreed to pay and said no that i must go to a govermnet hospital.

I am totally appalled and disgusted by Adcartfs' owners total disregard for customer safety and lack of remorsefulness in this matter and will will be seeking help from SAPS and SPCA regarding this matter.
