Want to feel violated?

10 years ago I passed through ORT Airport. There was a hole cut into the canvas of my suitcase and a newly bought pair of sneakers had been removed. Theft from luggage was an industry at that time. There were supposedly some attempts to clear this up.

Roll forward 10 years and I am at ORT again. This time the lock on my suitcase is smashed. In the midst of the Covid pandemic, every item in my suitcase had been searched and dumped back. The 7 small zipper bags (toiletries, stationery, socks, undies, etc. all nearly packed) had all been opened and the contents dumped back. No valuables, and eventually only a USB memory stick was taken.

Point is: what type of operational control is exercised that allow baggage handlers to search through the suitcases of passengers? If you want feel violated, I can recommend the ORT experience. For the record, I dumped the suitcase with its contents on a garbage heap.
