SKY-HIGH AIRPORT PARKING ( AND SIDELINE! ) FEES !!

KING SHAKA WOULD NOT BE AMUSED! Forget SAA's financial woes..the profits flying in from the airport's carparks would keep SAA aloft, if only that company received them! Last week I delivered a crippled in-law and wheelchair to Durban's gin-palace airport. I parked, gratefully, in a disabled zone and was back after just 64 minutes. The fee charged for that hour was R18.00....a ridiculous sum to start with - only to find my wheel clamped and a demand of R350.00 to have it unclamped! Why? Because my car didn't display a "paraplegic" token! There's no warning about this "token" nor advice on where they're obtained - and does delivering a disabled relative just once a year even warrant such a token? Plus I hear there are cars galore similarly clamped at this Royal airstrip - and abandoned - due to monstrous rip-off parking fees (one of R250,000.00!). Some enterprising journalist should consider a feature on this profitable sideline of the Airline Industry - and maybe SAA could "appropriate" this parking yard and instantly return to profitability!
