Failure to apply reason/logic and common sense.

<p>This morning my elderly father drove to the OR Tambo to drop off my 80 year old grandmother who suffers from Alzheimers. As she is ill, it is not possible to leave her unattended and as she is too old and fragile to walk long distnaces at a time, he parked on the drop off and collect and got her out of the car with her bags and proceeded to walk her inside to the nearest wheelchair. There was no on ein sight outside to help or get a wheelchair or to advise him otherwise. He was not even 10mins and when he returned, he saw that his vehicle was being uploaded to a flatbed. He stopped them and he tried to explain about my grandmother and the wheelchair but all the guy kept saying is, "I dont care. you must pay ja. You must pay." So my father went to the manager on duty (turns out it wasnt the manager on duty as she is a woman in the end, the guy doing the tow just **** to get rid of him)and explain the situation and they charged him R750 to get his vehicle back. Then he had to walk all the way down to the impound to retrieve his car. When my mother called me to tell about what had happened, I immediately phoned the number on the slip they gave him. I explained and was transfered. I explain and was transfered. I explain and was transfered. Eventually, a lady came and told me that this is policy and procedure and that the vehicle could have contained a bomb! I rep**** that surely policy and procedure leave room for logic and that upon looking at the footage they could see that indeed it is as he explained. They dropped the call, I phoned back. This time I was livid to say the least. I told her that this is unacceptable and that policies and procedures can not trump leaving a Alzheimer sufferer unattended in the car for any period. It would be irresponsible. They rep**** that in that case you shouldve gotten someone to get him a wheelchair. But this would also leave her unattended! I was then issued with a cell number for a lad. I specifically asked if she is on duty today and the man rep**** yes. I called the cell and it was off. I called back again, a lady picked up and said that in fact this supervisor isnt in and that she will be bcak on Monday. I was **** to by officials? What about policies and procedures? I am completely taken aback that people have no common sense as any person would have realized that yes, policies and procedures are there for the greater good, but that this was not usual case and appplying logic would have been at the order of the day. When did it be3come all about policies and procedures? WE are no tAmerica having to take such severe measures! ALso, my parents are both pensioners. R750 is a quarter of their monthly income! I am completely outraged by this lack of empathy by the managers. How can people be emplopyed in managerial positions and they can not even apply logic and discretion to treat each instance seperate? Managers are still leaders, right? I wish to have my parent's money returned and a official complaint laid against the tow driver for his conduct. </p>
