These were one on one and due to the office not having a boardroom, the only privacy I could get was outside the building or the café downstairs. After my first consult (Approx. 09H30) we returned to the entrance and my colleague realized that he had neglected to carry his access card. I proceeded to scan him in and then myself not realizing that I was contravening a rule. Security had engaged me and I proceeded to explain that my colleague (dressed in Aramex uniform) had neglected to bring down his access card, we just came down and was in consult outside . Security had then asked to see my permit and then confiscated it.

Security then advised me that I was not allowed to scan another individual in. I explained to the officer that it was not my intention to break any rule and that I was also not aware of the rule. My card was only issued last week. Unfortunately for me, I did not memorize all of the rules when filling in the application form. It would be interesting to come across somebody that has.

I advised the officer that we can obtain my colleagues card from upstairs to resolve the matter but security refused to listen to anything I had to say. My colleague had returned back to the office and I had requested to speak to a manager or supervisor. The supervisor arrived and I then explained what had happened and that it was an honest mistake. The supervisor did not want to entertain anything I had to say and proceeded to complete the necessary forms to have my card taken away. I was then told that I need to go to the 3rd floor, Compliance office on Wednesday @ 09H00 to plead my case and to try and recover my card.

I continued to conduct my meetings in the café down stairs until mid-day. I then approached security again and asked them to allow me to take my vehicle out of parking bay B. I left the premises just after 12h30. During the entire incident I was polite and understood that there was a protocol in place. I understood that security was doing their job and I also did not want to make that difficult even though I had grounds to. I opted to seek the appropriate forum to address my grievance.

This incident did not have to be escalated to the extent that my access card was taken away. It was clear that it was not my intention to contravene a rule and I had also offered a solution to the problem. I was transparent and communicated openly and clear through-out my interaction with security. My grievance lies with the fact that I was told that if you do not have an access card you will have to fill in the register and provide identification. My colleague was allowed to return upstairs without having to produce any form of identification except for the uniform that he was wearing and he did not complete the register? Security ignored its protocol in this regard and continued to hastle me even though I was willing to resolve the problem there and then. This should all be in your surveillance footage between 09H30 and 10H00 (Approx.).
