No lay bye on Sale Goods

On 9th August we went to Ackermans Canal Walk to make a lay bye on some sale goods for my baby. When we got to the till after shopping we were told by the cashier that we cannot lay bye sale items. I sadly had to remove a few items which I actually liked. Today 13 August my mother sent me a msg telling me that she had been to Ackermans in Claremont to find out about this after I told her the story and she was told that they do accept lay byes on sale items. Is there different policies for different stores because I am under the impression that all Ackermans stores worked under 1 company with 1 set of rules?
