inconsistent application of procedures
i went to an ackerman's store in arcadia, pretoria, to lay bye some items. the cashier refused to accept my driving licence as a form of identification. my frustration is that i have used my licence at other ackermans branches before, without any hassles.
i called arcadia branch's store manager and he confirmed that my green id book is required. i explained that i was not opening an account and that i was setting aside items i wanted to buy, in order to pay for them a little later. i couldn't obtain a clear explanation for the need to have the id number SCANNED from my id book. i then called another store and the lady explained that the reason they scan the id book, is to avoid requesting an override from their supervisors. the call centre also confirmed that the id number can be typed on their sytem.
what i find even bizzare is that my id book is not required when i collect items i lay byed. it is for this reason that i fail to understand the need for my id book.
ackermans now need to look at making customers' lives easier. please consider convenience. i read about your company values, which suggests that you put me at the heart of everything you do. am not happy.
