How do you fit on shoes that are LOCKED?

Dear Sir or Madam,

Last week I was looking for school shoes for my son. I visited Ackermans in Kenilworth Centre, Cape Town. There was firstly no footstool to sit on or put your foot on. I found one some distance away and asked the saleslady if I could use it. She said yes but just stood there with her arms folded, not helping me carry it neither asking whether she could assist me.

When we took the shoes off the shelf we saw it had a lock on which means it was impossible to fit on the shoes. I went back to the saleslady who told me to go and ask the tellers to unlock it. Now I had to stand in a queue just to get to a teller. The teller was not friendly at all and looked at me as if my request to unlock it was foreign to her. She eventually reluctantly unlocked it.

I went back to the footstool and tried it on. Wrong size. I went back to saleslady no.1.who told me to stand in the queue again. This was getting totally ridiculous and I left the shop. I found better quality school shoes in another shop where the shoes were not locked.

I can understand that Ackermans wants to guard against shoplifting but surely you should keep the customer's needs in mind? At least let your staff be friendly and helpful. If you insist on having the ridiculous locks on shoes then at least have a staff member nearby to unlock it when a customer wants to fit it on!

I have been shopping at Ackermans for many years but this was definitely my worst shopping experience there to date! I'm not sure if I;ll go back, ever...
