********** Account
I would like to report a ********** matter that almost took place on the 23rd October 2020, at Fourways Crossing in Johannesburg. I went to the store to lay bye clothes for my 6 year old daughter. In reaching the till point I offered the cashier "DERRICK" his name my ID to process my lay-bye upon his request, he even requested to confirmed my cellphone number which I provided. I left the store with my receipt, just before I got home I receive an SMS requesting that I bring in my *3 months BANK statement, proof of address and Pay sheet. I thought this was odd and did not pay much attention to it.
The next morning when I woke up I receive an SMS notification from TransUnion notifying me a clothing store was doing a credit check on me. I then contacted TransUnion trying to understand which clothing store this is. I was informed it is ACKERMANS, which they then provided the call centre number ***) to investigate further. I called the centre and the lady who assisted me promptly asked if I opened an account which I denied opening an account at this store. I clarified to her I only went to the Ackermans to make a lay bye for my daughter and that is it. She requested the name of the Cashier I provided his name and advised me to go straight to the store and speak to the store manager about this issue. The call centre operator even said if I do not get a proper assistance I am more than welcome to call back and request to speak to her it is unfortunate I forgot her name.
I then proceeded and drove to ACKERMANS on Sunday Morning just before 11am and reported this MATTER to the Store manager who introduced himself as Stanley. The manager offered me his word and even did a copy of my lay bye receipt in specifying that HR department will contact me the following week. He went ahead and called the Cashier in question "DERRICK" he muttered explanation I did not fully understand, and ended it with "I am sorry" when I asked him whether I offered him a permission to open an account using my personal details he said "NO" I then asked did you ask me if I wish to open an account in your store he responded "NO" I asked if this is what he is used to doing to unsuspecting consumers coming to the store? I do not recall him responding. The response I had in private was from the store manager "STANLEY" was that it is not the first time there has been complaints about this particular CASHIER. The feedback I received today 27th October from Stanley (STORE MANAGER) was unsatisfactory that is the reason I am exposing the store so that other consumers are aware of what the likes of DERRICK are doing in this clothing stores, which is completely unacceptable and disrespectful. I hope this never happens to anyone, and trust ACKERMANS address the matter and make sure this never happens ever again.
