Couldn't claim repair warranty

I bought future airpods in November and they no longer connect to my phone. I tried to return them under the repair warranty and the staff said it is not applicable. While it is clearly stated on the receipt that I can get them repaired under the 24 months repair warranty. Or did I misunderstand.
