I purchased a Samsung Galaxy A06 (SM-A065F) cash from Ackermans in December 2025. Upon using the device I discovered it has an active Knox Guard (KG) lock — a Samsung security system that is activated at retailer level and renders the device compromised and not fully functional as sold. I have proof of purchase in the form of an official store-issued document containing the IMEI number, SKU number and date of purchase — printed and provided by the Ackermans store manager herself. When I approached the store to resolve this I was met with the following responses: ❌ "Our SOP does not allow exchanges or refunds on phones" ❌ "It's been more than 7 days so we can't help" ❌ "We need authorization from a superior" — who then failed to respond To date Ackermans has: Failed to remove the Knox Guard lock Refused to replace the defective device Refused to issue a refund Left me with a cash purchased device that was defective from day one I want to make it clear to any consumer reading this — a store SOP cannot override the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008. Section 56 gives every South African consumer the right to a repair, replacement or refund on a defective product within 6 months of purchase. That right is mine and Ackermans is currently violating it. I am now escalating this to the National Consumer Commission and will be pursuing every legal avenue available to me. Ackermans — I am requesting a formal response and immediate resolution. A cash paying customer deserves better than being told they are stuck with a defective device for life.
