Ask for the cancellation amounts so you know what they are

I signed up for an online course and then once the course started, I realised that we had to cram one module per subject into 1 week which equated to a minimum of 2 modules per week (±100 pages).

Each subject only has a 1 hour class per week; which I personally found was not enough time to grasp the concepts.

None of the above I expected prior to joining and therefore I found it difficult to manage both a full time job and the online course and ultimately decided to cancel during the 7-day cooling off period as the cancellation terms seemed reasonable and standard: a 10% cancellation fee, payment for study material (online text books which is not returnable) and mention of a “non-refundable deposit fee", which I did not pay or were quoted/invoiced for, and so therefore did not think/know it was applicable to me.

Only upon my cancellation request was I informed that the deposit fee will be R2500. I only expected to pay for the text books (R1000) and then the additional 10% cancellation fee (R1130) and not a deposit as I never paid a deposit in the first place. And so because the overall cancellation costs equated to just over 40% of the original fee (I was only refunded 59% of what I originally paid), I was not happy as I only expected the cancellation costs to be around 20%.... Especially considering that the deposit fee amount of R2500 was never communicated or made clear to me until the point of cancelling :(

I feel that AIE should be upfront about these amounts (the R1000 text book fee and especially the R2500 deposit) as to avoid disappointment.
