You will not be remembered only by how you make people feel.
On Tuesday 14th Nov, I went to the bank to close two accounts. This was done at ABSA Malll of the South. Upon my arrival at the bank, I was greeted and directed to the business banking side. There were two tellers, and I could go to the one furthers away from the entrance. I was greeted and greeted back, and stated I wanted to close two investment accounts. I sat down, and the teller (female) just sat there looking at me. Not sure what was happening, I started removing my ID, upon which the teller said in a very rude manner "I am waiting for you".....I then handed over my ID and bank card to her. She went onto my profile and asked me which two accounts I would like to close, I stated again "the two investment accounts, or they are perhaps saving accounts, one has R50 odd rand in it and the other R1000" The teller then asked me "do you want to close your cheque account?" and I exclaimed "No please do not close my cheque account" The teller proceeded to talk to me with her entire hand in front of her mouth, making it very difficult to hear her, and I find this to be very rude and a unhygienic practice, not to mention unprofessional when dealing with clients. We had a very long discussion on exactly witch account she is to close, and stated out loud, that the one account only has R2.40 in it and it is so little I might as well leave it. I asked her to tell me how much the bank charges are on this account, perhaps I should leave it open, her answer "I don't know" still with her hand in front of her mouth. I asked her again, and also reiterated the same question. Again her answer "it depends" and again she exclaimed "this is so little money it does not matter what I get charged" I then decided to close this account as it is clear this particular ABSA staff member is not really interested in my affairs at ABSA Bank. The teller then gave me R2,50 and said "You can pay the parking" at the mall at least. We moved on to the second account, an she advised me that she will charge me R55 rand for transferring the R1000 to my cheque account, upon witch I said no, I will then close this account at the ATM, or online banking, as I am not willing to pay this amount of money to close an account. The teller then advised me that the ATM outside is offline, I rep**** in that case you have to do it for free, as I have no choice to use a teller for this transaction. She then went ahead and said she will check what I will be charged, as it is not up to her but up to the system. Is this even true ? Never the less I made my objection very clear to any charges on this action from ABSA bank. Still with her hand in front of her mouth. At this point in time, a delivery person arrived and stood behind me, my teller then shouted out to someone else, if they can help the delivery person, she then shouted out she will help when she is done, all this is happening while she is busy closing my account, and in the middle of a transaction with me, a client. While still talking to other people over my head, and to the delivery man behind me, she gave me a slip to sign, she then stood up from her chair and walked away, I still had not signed my slip, and our transaction was not yet completed at the stage that she left the table, I proceeded to sign my slip, and was unsure of where to place it, and what to do next.....I find this teller's behaviour extremely rude, and dismissive, as I am still a client of ABSA. No matter how much money I have. I would like this teller to apologize for her rude and dismissive behaviour as publicly as she tried to belittle me.
