Worst bank to go with - steer clear of ABSA

Our roof has been affected by the heavy rains in KZN over a month ago and we've since been experiencing bad leaks. To date there is no formal response from Absa. On contacting the call center on numerous occasions, pleading for a formal response, we are told that our claim has been rejected due to lack of maintenance by us - still nothing in writing. We have only moved into this property for 1 year now and a comprehensive inspection report confirms that no adverse observations were made concerning the roof. An Absa representative inspector came through and confirmed that the roof was damaged because of the storm and confirmed that there was no maintenance issue. Absa agreed to finance the property based on the same inspection report that confirms the roof to be in proper condition. Why are we having to pay insurance on a structure only to be told we haven't maintained it in 1 year?? This is disgusting behavior by a big corporate in the midst of a weather crisis - yet the Bank is busy advertising about supporting flood victims. As a result of Absa's inaction and non-communication, our walls and furniture have now been damaged. I will be referring this to the Ombudsman and I am approaching other banks to move my home loan. If I could rate Absa ZERO stars, I would.
