Woeful ABSA Private Banking Experience

I have been trying to cancel my Private Bank Card for the past three weeks. I made the initial payment that was requested and indicated that I would be overseas for 10 days. On my return I phoned to check if my card had been cancelled as requested. I was told that an amount had been debited against my card. I subsequently made another payment. I phoned the next day to try and cancel my card, only to be told that a subscription had gone of my card. I immediately cancelled this subscription and sent through relevant proof of payment and an indication that the subcsription had been transferred to my new Bank FNB. I once again phoned ABSA Private Banking Services and informed them of this fact and the poor service I had received in terms of advice to ultimately close this account. The service consultant cut the call. I then phoned again and waited half an hour to get through. When I got through I was finally assisted by a very professional consultant who has undertaken to ensure that this account is finally closed.

All that I can say is that ABSA Private Banking does not provide the personal service it promises to deliver. What is the point of subscribing to such a service for which you pay a significant extra fee and the service is no better than the service you receive for a normal banking account. I am so grateful that FNB helped me to switch to their Private Client Banking Service. It is far superior than anything that ABSA can offer.

They took me on and offerred me a bond for a very valuable property in the Drakensberg within 3 days. ABSA on the other hand with whom I have banked for over 20 years sent out an inexperienced property assessor to assess the property, which I ultimately purchased through FNB and were not even willing to consider a second assessment despite proof that I had provided from the municipality regarding their evaluation of the property and a private assessment that was done for me by a professional quantity surveyor.

I am not surprised that ABSA is not able to secure the same level of bonds as FNB and that their clients are switching to FNB.,
