We can help ourselves because we can

The title is the response to my complaint regarding the imposition of unilateral charges on my current account.

At least 15 years ago, I entered into an agreement with ABSA Bank whereby, as I was older than 55, I could enjoy free banking as long as I maintained a fixed deposit of R20 000. This was done and the deposit has been maintained and reinvested every year. It has now more than doubled in value indicating that I have maintained my side of the agreement. During this time I was not charged any bank charges.

Now out of the blue in November I have noticed various charges on my account viz. "Monthly Account Fee", " Ïnternet Bank Fee", "Transaction Charge" etc . So far this month the total charges exceed R100!

How can ABSA break this agreement with a loyal client who been with them for more than 50 years and must lose this money from a lowly pension.

Dear Claudette
I received a phone call from Fish Hoek branch acknowledging receipt of complaint and then to my utter astonishment, an invitation to participate in a survey to rate their (total lack of) service.
What a joke. Am i just wasting my time or will this matter be resolved?
