Warning your building might not be covered by your ABSA building Insurance!

After paying for building insurance for nearly 5 years, I placed a claim for a collapsed ceiling. After being messed around by ABSA for 2 weeks, they told me that the ceiling wasn't built according to their standards and they rejected the claim.

So this is a warning to anyone that is currently insured by, or considering ABSA Building Insurance. Your building might not be insured at all!!

Here is the chronological order of events: Saturday 11 January 2020: The ceiling in my 7.5 x 7.5m entertainment room collapsed. Monday 13 January 2020: Phoned ABSA Building Insurance to log claim. Tuesday 14 January 2020: TJS Maintinance was assigned to the claim. Arrangements were made for them to assess the damage the following day. Wednesday 15 January 2020: The inspector called to say she couldnt make it, so they re-scheduled for Thursday the 16 January. Thursday 16 January 2020: The inspector arrived nearly 1 hour late for the appointment. Monday 20 January: I hadn't heard any feedback from ABSA so I contacted them. I was informed that TJS hadn't submitted their report, and ABSA would follow up with them. Wednesday 22 January: Still no feedback from ABSA so I phoned again. I was informed that the report was submitted and had been passed on to a specialised department. Monday 27 January: Again no feedback, so again I phoned ABSA. Here's what I was told. The claim was rejected due to the ceiling not being installed according to ABSA's standards. This rejection was absoloutley loudacris, so I requested that the rejection reasons are emailed to me. 3 days later I still haven't received an email.

So the building that I have insured through ABSA might not be built according to ABSA's standards. Not any relevant building code or regulation but their own standards that were never disclosed to me.

So this is a warning to all!!!
