Warning to Consumers with Absa Home Loan Insurance

Insurance Claim - Collapsed ceiling - Claim Ref No ***-Policy no. ***. On Saturday the 17th of October between 2 - 3 am our lounge ceiling collapsed. We had the extension added to our home 19 years ago. I reported the incident on Monday and the assessor arrived and took some photos and said the ceiling boards were attached to the roof trusses with nails and not *****s. She told me to follow up on my claim because the claim department needs to be called to respond promptly. I phoned the claim department on Wednesday the 21st of October to find out what was happening and was told that ABSA would not pay out the claim as the damage was not caused by a peril and the ceiling had collapsed due to poor workmanship. I argued that this could not be proved and requested another assessor to come out and inspect the damage. After reporting my complaint to the ABSA Action Line - *** an internal assessor came and inspected the damage on Tuesday morning the 27th of October. I phoned ABSA Claims department on the 29th and was told that the claim will not be paid. Must one be an inspector before you do any building? DO NOT THINK BECAUSE YOU HAVE INSURANCE YOU ARE COVERED.
