Very bad experience with the mighty ABSA Bank
It is with disappointment that I write this review about a Bank I thought was the best in the country. I have had a very long standing relationship with Absa Bank, I was one of the biggest suppliers of promotional items for about 9 - 10 years. All my banking was done by them. Eighteen months ago we moved down to Somerset West which proved to be a bad decision for us. The consequences of this move was that I ran up my Absa Private Bank Credit Card to its maximum. I approached Absa to make some kind of arrangement to pay off this card. I spoke to Mr. Craig Staffen who has been the perfect gentleman throughout this process that has been going on for months. Mr. Staffen contacted the Credit Card division on my behalf while I was in his office and got a re-payment figure of R4 500.00 per month this has since denied by Ms. Yolisa Mlungwana who carries the title of Regional Segment Head Private Wealth Cape even after she confirmed this with Mr. Staffen. I have nothing else to say about Ms. Mlungwana other than she does not do her job. I have been paying R7 500.00 per month on this debt. Cut this long story short, we have sold our house in Somerset West and I made an appointment with Mr. Staffen to come into the Bank this morning and pay the Credit Card off. An amount of R325 217,70. When Mr. Staffen on my request asked for some kind of settlement discount, the answer was "that's what the computer says". That is that! No let me see what I can do for you, no nothing. No relationship, no business sense. No nothing but the "computer says" I have paid the amount and I will walk away, however let me just add that every big company in this country like the M-Nets that have treated customers badly and so on, no longer exist. Don't expect any help from this bank!
