I am utterly disgusted with Absa bank. I started phoning the bank from the 1st April 2026, to notify the bank that I have lost all my income and will from the end of April 2026 not be able to pay the vehicle’s that is financed by Absa. I phoned and held on for some time then go through all the security questions, then spoke to a person and explained what happened. The main issue is to make an arrangement with the bank, regarding the payment that must be done. The 1st person I spoke to said it’s a reality and people are losing their jobs and things are just getting difficult. But I am in the wrong department he will transfer me to the correct department. I had to hold one again and go through the security questions again, then as I spoke to the lady, as I started to explain again the whole story, the line cut off. I had to phone again and go through the same process again. Strange how you phone the number on your statements, follow the promps and end up in the wrong department. Eventually I spoke to another lady and she said I must send all the info with an explanation and proof, banks statements the lot to this email address…. They will take about 7 days to respond. This was middle April 2026 when I emailed the info. The email did not come back, as not delivered, al seems to be fine. I waited and nothing happened. I phone the Absa bank again on the 28th April 2026 and this time the lady said I don’t have to send an email with all that info, I just need to notify them via the phone and they can make a note onto the system. Why was this then not done the 1st time I phoned ??? She could not answer me. She asked me to hold while she is making a note on both the accounts. I asked her for a ref number or can she send me an email that the note is on the system or anything in this regard. No, she said, they do not do that and if the accounts were in arrears, then she could have sent me a letter. Month end came and obviously, no money in the account. Got a sms from Absa stating that there is no funds and the debit order did not go through, and I can reply via the sms by pressing “2”, and a person from the bank will phone me. Done so and received a call from the bank a bid later, the message said to hold on to speak to a bank representative and I hold on.. Later went into the queuing system and still held on. After about 12 minutes a lady answered the phone, this was the collection department. I explained the story as mention above that I tried to notify the bank and tried to make an arrangement and send an email and phoned again and again.. the lady asked me if the accounts are in arrears. I said yes, they are now, as there is no funds in the account to pay the monthly amount. She said, then in that case, the bank does not make arrangements because the account are arrears. I said but this is why I phoned and emailed and did all I could to make an arrangement, and while speaking to her the line conveniently just cut off. No phoning me back no sms nothing. Is this just incompetence or is this bank tactics to stuff us as clients around. I have been with Absa from 1988, have a home loan, credit cards and vehicle financing, all at Absa, and this is how you get treated. I honestly don’t know why I am still with the bank. And then they have the audacity, to ask to stay on the line and rate their service, if I only knew what service I got, I would have rated them lower then snake sh..
