USE ANY OTHER VEHICLE FINANCE HOUSE- NOT ABSA
The handling of my vehicle finance application was TERRIBLE and the repeated contradictory information I received from ABSA Vehicle Finance and its call centre agents.
The situation has caused me severe financial and personal stress, and I believe the matter needs to be properly investigated by reviewing all recorded calls made between myself and ABSA.
My issue started when I approached a dealership to ask whether I could apply for vehicle finance using my father’s driver’s licence while I remained the actual applicant. That dealership informed me this was not possible.
However, another dealership advised me that it could be done and told me to submit the application as they would “get it approved.”
Confused by the conflicting information, I contacted ABSA Vehicle Finance directly for clarity.
During my first call with ABSA, I was told that I could use my parent’s driver’s licence as long as:
They were listed as the main driver, We shared the same surname, and We lived at the same address.
Based on this information, I proceeded accordingly. I was later told by another ABSA consultant that this was incorrect and not allowed.
I then contacted ABSA again to ask what options were actually available to me. During that call, I was informed that I could instead use a sibling with the same surname. I attempted this route as advised, only to again be told during the application process that it was not acceptable.
I contacted ABSA a third time because no one seemed able to provide a consistent answer. During this call, I was told that I could apply using anyone who lived with me, even if they were not family, provided we shared the same residential address.
I explained that I am not legally married, but I live with my fiancé, who has a valid driver’s licence. I specifically asked whether this arrangement would be acceptable, and I was told yes.
Based on this information:
I co-app**** using my fiancé as the licensed driver, My finance application was approved, The dealership advised that payment was about to be processed, and Invoices had already been submitted.
Only at this very late stage was I suddenly told that ABSA could not proceed because I personally do not yet hold a driver’s licence.
I explained that:
I am writing my learner’s licence on the 30th, In the meantime my fiancé and father would be driving me, I urgently need a vehicle to transport my children to school and to get to work, and
I am now left in an extremely difficult position because multiple ABSA consultants provided completely contradictory information throughout this process. At no point did anyone clearly explain the actual policy or requirements to me until after approval stages had already progressed.
This matter has had serious consequences for me personally and financially.
I request that:
ABSA urgently review ALL recorded calls relating to my application, Someone take responsibility for the repeated misinformation provided, A clear written explanation of ABSA’s actual policy regarding licensed drivers and applicants be provided to me, and My complaint be escalated to management for formal investigation.
The level of inconsistency and misinformation I experienced is unacceptable, especially considering the life-changing decisions I made based on guidance provided directly by ABSA representatives. DO NOT APPLY WITH ABSA.
