Unresolved ***** on My Absa Account – No Support and No Follow-Up
I am writing to express my deep disappointment with the way Absa has handled the *****ulent transactions that were processed through the Cloudways.com platform using my bank card, transactions that I neither authorised nor had any knowledge of. My entire November salary has been wiped out as a result of this *****, leaving me in a highly distressing financial position.
I reported the matter to Absa immediately on 15 November, and I was assured that an investigator would be assigned to my case and would contact me to conduct an interview. It is now seven days since the *****ulent transactions occurred, and I have still not received a single call, update, or any form of communication from Absa regarding the status of my case.
Meanwhile, my debit orders have started going off, with some already bouncing due to insufficient funds—through no fault of my own. My Absa home loan is now also at risk of not being paid on time, which could have serious consequences for me.
The lack of urgency, communication, and support from Absa during such a critical situation is unacceptable. As a long-standing customer, I expected better assistance and prompt action, especially in a matter involving ***** and my entire monthly income.
I urgently request that Absa investigate this matter, reverse the *****ulent transactions, and provide immediate relief to prevent further financial damage.
Please prioritise this case.

I must express my deep dissatisfaction with how ABSA has handled this matter. It is extremely disappointing that it took public escalation on social media before any meaningful action appeared to take place. I have three active products with ABSA — my cheque account (into which my salary is paid), my credit card, and my home loan — and the level of service I received on this matter has been entirely unacceptable.
When I reported the issue on 15 November, I was advised that the case would be assigned to an investigator, Mr. McDonald Selepe. The case was allocated to him on 18 November, and I was told he would contact me to advise on next steps and provide regular updates. None of that happened. I received no communication, no reassurance, and no indication that ABSA was actively pursuing the issue.
As a result, I was left anxiously hoping that the vendor — whom I had to personally engage — would honour their promise to refund the funds, all while worrying whether the refund would be processed before my debit orders (including my home loan) went off. Throughout this period, ABSA offered me no support, no urgency, and no accountability.
While I acknowledge that the funds have now been returned, I cannot agree that this outcome was due to ABSA’s efforts. The vendor demonstrated willingness to assist from the outset, and I personally followed up with them until proof of refund was provided. ABSA’s role in this resolution, from my perspective, was minimal at best.
I have banked with ABSA for over 20 years and recently moved my home loan to the bank. Unfortunately, this experience has left me with no confidence in ABSA’s ability to protect and support me as a client. I will be actively exploring alternative financial service providers and will be moving all my accounts accordingly.
This experience and my feedback will also be shared publicly.
