UNFAIR REJECTION OF CLAIM AND VERY BAD SERVICE FROM ABSA HOME INSURANCE

On 2 March 2021 a municipal water main burst on the pavement in front of my house which caused the soil to get so waterlogged that the boundary wall started leaning over and cracking in several places.

I registered a claim with ABSA Insurance on 3 March 2021, who sent out an assessor a couple of weeks later and then an engineer in May 2021. ABSA then rejected my claim saying that the wall was not built according to regulations and that there was no proof of the incident ever happening.

I sent them video and photos of the 2 meter deep hole that was dug to get to the pipe as well as proof that the water was gushing from the pipe as well as the Joburg Water reference number months ago.

My house was built in 1979, 5 years prior to the promulgation of the regulations they refer to, but they insist it was not built according to these regulations. It was definitely NOT built according to these regulations because the regulations only came 5 years AFTER it was built.

I have taken this case to the ombudsman as well, but I'm still waiting for resolution from ABSA 9 1/2 months later.

To date, I have not been contacted by any ABSA staff member, only sent a rejection letter.

Maybe this is exactly what they mean by : ‘Africanacity’ - It’s the way we get things done.
