Unbelievable difficulty in closing my cheque account during pandemic - unsuccessful to date

I have had the worst experience with ABSA. I have had a cheque account with them since 2000. On 1st April 2020 I wrote an email to them, in order to close my account. The balance on my account was nil. Due to the pandemic, I was unable to physically go to a branch to close the account. I have subsequently sent ABSA many emails, and contacted customer support, to no avail. They have handed my account over to lawyers. According to them I owe them R877.68 - this balance is for BANK CHARGES from 1st April 2020. I have not been transacting on this account as my instruction was to close it. The lawyers are calling me on a daily basis. I've asked them for an email address in order to submit all the documentation to them, but they refuse to provide me with one, and say they cannot stop calling me. ABSA needs to notify them that I do not owe them any money. Every time I send the email with all supporting documentation to ABSA I receive the following message.
