Unacceptable service

This is now my third Hello Peter complain regarding Absa in one month. That says a lot.

I've been put through the wringer with Absa. 6 months on, 2 applications, 3 calls to managers and 2 branch visits and I finally got my credit card today. I walked into the Hatfield Pretoria branch in a very unhappy mood due to the stress and unhappiness Absa has put me through.

When I got to the front of the queue I was served by Ronny. As I sat down a dropped my ID on to the counter and as I had done so on my way to sitting, it fell from a bit of a height and so was put down more "forcefully" (due to height) than was exactly necessary. When Ronny asked me how I was, I informed him that I'm very unhappy with Absa and that if he can't give me my credit card today then can he please show me how to move banks because I'm not sure how to.

I work in customer service and we were trained to know that if a customer is unhappy, we apologise, even if we aren't at fault, even if the client is being unreasonable, and even if the client is the one at fault. That is how business works. I wasn't being unreasonable to be upset. It has been Absa's fault that this whole nightmare has happened and stretched on for 6 months. I wasn't looking for an apology from Ronny, but I most definitely wasn't looking for a reprimand, which is what I got!

He told me that I was being rude and that there was no need for me to throw my ID down on the desk. Firstly, I didn't purposefully throw it. Secondly, even if I had, I didn't display any aggression towards Ronny, I wasn't offensive, I didn't swear, I didn't even raise my voice. I don't go into branches in order to be told off by employees when I'm upset and I certainly don't go in to be made to cry, which is what ended up happening.

For some reason I ended up apologising to Ronny, when I didn't even need to, and he didn't even say thank you for the apology. The roles were entirely reversed! I should've been the one receiving the apology from Absa, not giving one for being dissatisfied with your horrific service, which is my full right to be! I pay you and expect to be treated well in return.

QA needs to teach your employees how to handle upset customers and how to not put people off ever coming into the branch again. I am never stepping foot into the Hatfield branch ever again, seeing as they are so badly trained that they berate customers for being upset. He had absolutely no right to tell me that I was being rude. Who trains your staff?! Feel free to pull the CCTV footage to witness what your employee did.

Because of Ronny's behaviour, I have reached the end of my tether. He was the last straw. I am researching other banks and am going to move my money elsewhere as soon as I decide which bank to go to. I don't want to continue to pay money to be messed around and treated like I'm a child in need of punishment. I've put my complaints on Facebook and have been given excellent advice from friends about which banks I should look into moving to and not one person commented saying they've had a great experience with Absa and that I should stay with them.

Give me a single reason why I should continue to be with your company, because I'm sure you can't provide me with a valid one.
