THEIR system error, but now I have to fix it
I have been unable to use my credit card for the past few days. Upon hearing about a general system error with ABSA, I was patient and used other means of payment instead while they fix their error. Today I received an sms stating that I need to go to a branch to re-activate my card. A call to their 'ActionLine' (which hung up on my first call and then could not help me in my chosen language) confirmed this. I did not deactivate it, so why should I do anything to reactivate it? And why in a branch? I work full time, and the bank closes mid-afternoon, Saturdays are not an option either. This is hopelessly archaic.

The only logical explanation is that their entire credit card database got hacked, and all the information got compromised, thereby necessitating a database rebuild from scratch, with the added 'security measure' of actually seeing the person and the card in their branch. How far from the truth is this?

Please reactivate my card. You broke it, therefore you fix it. You are welcome to send someone to me to verify that I am indeed human if you insist.

Regards,
JM
