The not so artful dodger - Claim ***

On the 31/10/2016 I lodged a claim with Absa Insurance Company under my homeowners policy due to electrical wiring issues resulting from a resident's attempts to reconnect hinself *******ly. Myself and several other residents were affected by this with lights conststantly flickering on and off. The botched attempt at ******* conenction resulted in my gate motor, intercom, distribution board and several light and plug points being affected. On lodging my claim Absa immediately went into obfuscation mode (an all too common reaction from Absa). I was advised that I would need to get a letter from the municipality confirming the incident - not an easy task. After two weeks I eventually managed to get a letter from the municipality confirming the issue as I had reported in my claim and forwarded this to the Absa assessor for finalisation. I called in last week to follow up on a claim related damage in the storm 09/11/2016 (claim ********** - still unresolved) as well as this claim. I was told that my claim had been denied as Absa only considered claims where there was cable theft - nobody from Absa had bothered to inform me. This is typical of Absa's dodger complex when it coems to dealing with legitimate customer claims. I fail to see the material difference between somebody *****ing a cable and tamepering with a line - the ouctome is generally same. Furthermore it is not as if I could personally have done something to prevent this. Absa needs to take responsibility - that is the point of insurance. My household contents policy(gratefully with another insurer) settled our claims for damaged appliances within two days (no municipal letter required). Absa do the right thing and stop avoiding responsibility when customers put forward legitimate claims.

It is now exactly a week since I lodged my complaint via this website, after failing to get a resolution to my claim. Other than the template response of acknowledgement via this website, I have heard nothing since. Disappointing but not unexpected.
