Suspected *****

Warning to everyone NOT to appoint Absa as the executor of your will. My father passed away in May last year and had appointed Absa as his Executor, so Umhlanga branch handled it. His estate was very straight forward, his assets liquid and yet it took them 17 months to wind up the estate. They tried three different methods to de***** the beneficiaries during that time. On their initial statements of assets they said two of my father’s banking accounts could not be found, which was nonsense as they were both current. Fortunately I had proof and sent it to them. On their interim statement they said that one of the bequeathed had been paid, but when I checked with the bequeathed, she knew nothing about it. After a lot of back and forth, finally found out that the money had been paid into a Tyme bank account which had been opened online a week before the payout. The bequeathed knew nothing of this account. Absa then said the money was being returned from Tyme back as it had been put into a suspense account. I got furnished with proof that it had been returned to the estate, but not proof that it had come back from Tyme bank. Then to top it off, when I did an analysis after we got the Final Statement and pay out, the beneficiaries had been short changed by over R200 000. I told them I would not accept that and wanted a meeting with the auditors (as I had been told repeated by the branch manager they have strict audit processes in place). Suddenly, without any explanation or apologies, we received what was due to us. To my knowledge, the person who dealt with the estate is still employed there and hasn’t been disciplined in any way. I find that staff, including the branch manager, seem to be complicit and cover for each other. I am just greatful that I do not bank with Absa, and never have to have dealings with them again.
