Stuck abroad with a Absa debit card that is unusable
After months of attempting to get access to my Bank account, while I’m stuck abroad, I asked Absa to re-issue me with a new debit card, and to mail it to me. They assured me that I can use my previous PIN number to access my card. The fact that I can use my previous PIN number to access my card, is also indicated on the envelope which accompanied my card. I paid in excess of R800 to have the card sent to me. Absa was fully aware of my constraints, i.e. not having Internet Banking or Power of Attorney assigned to someone back home. I have just wasted more than R800 to have a card sent to me, which I can now not use. Absa does not know why my previous PIN is not working and they can no longer assist me. I am a state pensioner and R800 is a lot of money for me. I asked Absa to then refund me for the costs to send the card to me, but they have been ignoring my request. I have been with Absa, previously Trustbank, for more than 50 years, and is appalled at the continuous battles with Absa to get any resolution to this, or any other issues, that I’ve had with Absa.
