SMS DEBIT CARD EXPIRING
On 02 December 2015 I received an SMS from Absa informing me that my debit card would expire in 30 days, I phoned various ABSA branches and was told that they did not have stock of debit cards. I then phoned ABSA East Rand Mall and was told they did not have stock. When I asked about the SMS and how they expected me to operate on my account if I did not have a debit card, they told me to hold on and eventually came back and said they did have debit cards in stock. I asked how debit cards could expire and was given no explanation. I spoke to Chairmaine at East Rand Mall branch and said I would be coming in to collect a card. On Saturday 12 December I went into East Rand Mall branch, enquiries and they looked at my debit card and said it did not need to be replaced as it did not have an expiry date on it, when I asked about the SMS they said it had been sent to all their clients. I was told my card could be replaced at a cost of R80 - I did not need a new card I was responding to their SMS. I spoke to Charmaine then and asked why she had not told me this on the phone, she shrugged her shoulders and said \oh sorry"- bad customer service and a total waste of time."""
